welcome to my {blog} site

Hi I'm Kate and this is my blogsite. After much soul searching I've decided to give up my classic website in favour of this blog format so I can stay more current with the images I'm showing. This is the place to hear about special announcements, view my most recent work and catch some sneak peeks. This site will have both professional photos from sessions and photos of my favourite models (my two daughters). So check back when you can for new posts and feel free to make any comments, I would love to hear from you.

So I figure I should give you a little background into who I am. First of all I'm NOT a writer. I am a lifestyle photographer based in Vancouver, BC. I shoot mostly on location whether that be outside or at your home. I use available light, this means that I prefer to use all natural light but if there's not enough available I have other sources. My shooting style is laid back and fun, I want to try to capture the true essence of my subjects not the portrait studio version.

A little about me. I worked as an art director in advertising for 12 years supervising too many photoshoots to count. I have two beautiful girls who keep me on my toes everyday. I hate having my photograph taken (ironic right?). I love every aspect of photography.

Ball of Engery {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

Oh to have the energy of a three year old, even for one hour. I had a great time chasing around this little lady and can't wait to see how her baby sister turns out.

What's the Secret? {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

Calm and cooperative. I need to know the secret of how their boys are so calm and cooperative, I need not tell you it was a rude awakening returning to my own home and my "less calm" children.

Water Fountain Fun {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

Now here's a little boy who loves water. Thank goodness his parents brought him lots of clothes cause he got soaking!! And when water is that much fun it's important to share that fun with mum and dad, right? I'm just grateful that I wasn't invited to have a drink. So cute!

Twice the Fun {vancouver's fine art portrait photographer}

I have the greatest job in the world. I adore photographing children. Their shining eyes, fresh faces and joyous grins never fail to make me smile. I mean really, what could be better than spending time capturing giggles for a living.

So having identical twins show up is really only going to increase the fun. Especially with these giggly two. I had fun meeting you girls!

It's All About the Fashion {vancouver's fine art portrait photographer}

I do so love little girls fashion. There are so many times that children show up for photo shoots wearing outfits that I find myself wondering if that might come in my size. Sadly the answer is no and I would be nowhere near as cute even if they did.

These three were no exception. Although I admit I couldn't pull off the super cute green citrus and sundress in the chocolate brown would be fantastic.

Enjoy your sneak peek.

Four Generations {vancouver's fine art photographer}

Being a photographer that prefers shooting outside while living in Vancouver during the winter months can be a bit challenging. For the last few weeks we have seen nothing but rain. And not the kind of drizzle that you can just work through but pouring rain. But thankfully four generations of lovely ladies in one photograph is a very good reason for the sun to come out. I credit you with making the sun shine.

Enjoy your sneak peek ladies.

Future Rock Star {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

These two are going to keep their parents on their toes. I don't think I've seen so much personality squished into two little bodies as this brother and sister team. If Miss C follows her older brother's negotiating skills mum & dad are going to be in for a bumpy ride. Serious fun.

Down by the Bay {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

It's always great shooting the "D" family and today was no exception. Having only girls myself I get a really big kick out of hanging out with little boys and these boys have personality to spare.

More Multiples {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of photographing two highly energetic twin boys. Well it turns out that before having them their mother gave birth to triplets. That's right two sets of multiples! After meeting this teenage trio I have to say that I understand why she went ahead and had some more. Sorry for the delay in your sneak peek "A", but here it is.

Sneak Peek {vancouver's fine art family photographer}

A quick sneak peek for the "B" family. Your proofs will be ready very soon.

A Vancouver Shoot {portraits by the sea}

So on the last day of the Harmony Arts Festival Portraits by the Sea it decided to rain. Most people postpone due to rain as it is not ideal for pictures, but not this gang. Like true Vancouverites they braved the weather and we had a blast.
